denise said that in a dw_news post a while back; I think the goal is sometime this year? I do remember that it's RTE that's giving them the most trouble, and that if it were just the HTML versions, it would have been finalized a while ago. That said, it's also been a while since I last heard anything about it, so it might be more of a Soon(TM) situation than actually soon. Still no reason to put off making the change, IMO! If it's inevitable, better to get used to it right out of the gate than to get used to the temporary version and feel blindsided when the new version takes over. I know how resistant Tumblr users can be to change (same at Dreamwidth, TBH, but we at least tend to get plenty of warning and explanation), so getting it out of the way ASAP seems like a good move.
There absolutely is an "random icon" option, I just completely forgot about it 🤦♀️ Thank you for the reminder! I'll edit that into the post shortly.
Edit: Looks like I did remember the "random icon" button, the mention is just a little buried in there with the stuff about the "browse" option. (No shade; I can't tell you how many times I've been at work and looked directly at something and thought we didn't have any.)
