So I had been trying to get myself out of tumblr for a while now, and this seemed like a pretty good kick in the pants to do so. I don't really know what I'll post here, but we can figure that out as we go.
My tumblr url: nightingaleseeking
Other sites: AO3: earlymorningechoes
My fandoms: DRAGON AGE, Mass Effect, and Critical Role are the big ones. Other games are Legend of Zelda and Horizon Zero Dawn. I'm a lapsed Doctor Who fan who's getting back into it because of Thirteen, and a lapsed fan of Sanctuary and Stargate. Leverage is great, and I keep forgetting about Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries but I love it.
D&D! I both play and DM, and I'm a huge rules nerd (please come talk to me about rules).
The other big thing is books - I absolutely adore Becky Chambers' Wayfarers series, and there's definitely more but I always blank when I'm trying to write one of these. I'm always on the lookout for new sci-fi and fantasy to read. I've been on a big kick of queer/wlw books recently as well!
I'm also learning how to knit, which isn't a fandom but isn't a community, so there's that!
What kind of content I post: I post fanfic for DA, ME, and CR, but I've been in a slow creative time for a while now so there hasn't been a lot. Hopefully some meta as well, but probably mostly life updates.
Access/commenting policies: I don't really know yet, because I don't really know how they work. Presumably I won't be making too many locked posts, but I'll probably want to talk to people/get to know them a little before giving access? To be figured out later.
Anything else?: Queer as fuck, wlw and gray-ace (in the "not quite asexual but everything else is *wiggly hand gesture*" sense). I never had an LJ and was a Very Purity Culture Influenced young teen when Strikethrough and the ff.net nsfw purges happened, but I've bounced around forums since my early teens and love being in fandom, so I'm happy to be in a space where fannish experiences are the baseline and not the weird outliers.

Also another high five for D&D! What do you play as?

D&D! Right now I play in two games and DM a third, all of which are kind of on hiatus at the moment because holidays and other nonsense. The one I DM and one of the ones I play with are with overlapping groups, because two of the players are in college and leave for school 2/3rds of the year, so it's definitely not quite as crazy as "I have 3 active D&D games" sounds, lol. But my characters are both gnomes (which was kind of an accident), a druid and a barbarian. I love the barbarian from an RP perspective, but "yell, hit something, get hit" gets old fast from a combat perspective, so my DM and I are discussing respeccing her.
What do you play as?

Some of my friends are in like half a dozen games, so it could be worse? (Honestly I don't know how they get anything done. I swear they have a game every other day.) But: gnomes! A gnome barbarian sounds delightful - though I definitely understand the difficulty in combat. I've been rewatching random episodes of Critical Role while playing Pokemon and Grog only has so much variety, despite Travis's best efforts. (How much of CR have you watched, for reference?)
And I play a half-elf grave cleric! She is kind of a disaster, but she's trying her best. Aside from the whole religion thing, she's not really into that. (She is maybe not a great cleric.) I've mostly been playing her as a support caster instead of a healer, which is actually really fun. Clerics have a million buff/debuff/status spells. (Just... don't ask me to remember them all. Why did I pick a class that can change spells all the time. Why.)

I love both my gnomes so much - the druid's entire personality is summed up by a joke one of the other players made in the first session, "druid for the vine" :D The barbarian is actually surprisingly timid, but rages at the slightest provocation to her automaton cleric "adopted daughter."
I'm super behind on both campaigns, unfortunately for me - I struggle with the audio-only storytelling, and have to be in a very specific mindset/space to be doing something else that doesn't involve my brain to watch it. I'm on episode 33 of campaign 1 and...22 of campaign 2, I believe? I've been surprisingly good at avoiding spoilers for both, though.
Ahh grave clerics are so neat! And a cleric who's not super into religion is such a fun roleplay choice (and I love half-elves). I totally feel you about prepared casters, though - my druid is only level three and I'm already like "how am I supposed to remember that she has more than these six spells I wrote down on her sheet?"

druid for the vine oh my god i'm dying that's amazing. Also please tell me more about this automaton cleric??
Yeah I usually play games on my phone (or in this case, Pokémon) while watching. Critical Role is the reason I have 850 hours in Sailor Moon Drops (a Bejeweled/match-3 game that does not have that much content, at all, aside from the cute characters that come out every month and provide very little ingame benefit............ no I don't have a problem why are you giving me that look)
BUT YEAH continue to avoid Critical Role spoilers as much as you possibly can. Just. Trust me on that. I caught up during campaign 1 (and have watched live since) and it is so great unspoiled. (Granted, most things are, but it feels extra hard with CR given how long it is?)
My poor cleric doesn't even have proficiency in religion checks, whoops :') I've really been liking the bad about religion aspect, in part because I don't actually know that much about my chosen deity (I'm still figuring this out as I go!!) and because it makes for really interesting choices.
Thankfully I play on Roll20, so I just keep this up in a tab and look at it, like, the whole time we play. The downside is remembering what they all even DO.......

It's a steampunk-themed campaign, and
Speaking of Critical Role, I am spoiled for The Big Thing At The End re: Vax in season 1, and Poor Mollymauk in season 2, but that's pretty much it, somehow. Apparently my blocking of the "cr spoilers" tag on tumblr has been helpful ;P
I'm so here for this cleric, what a great idea :))

Oh my god WHAT A CHARACTER. Please protect this cleric. For me. (Cleric solidarity??)
Also a steampunk campaign sounds super fun! So far I've only gotten to play in traditional fantasy settings but I really want to play in other settings sometime. Though given my campaign is on semi-hiatus for the holidays, right now I just want to play at all! I've been in a huge D&D mood with no game to play. So I've been rewatching Critical Role :')

I think the others in my in-person campaign I DM for would totally keep playing despite holiday stuff, but man, I barely have time to prepare when it's not six days from my birthday, haha :P

........crap you just reminded me that i have two family birthdays coming up very soon and nobody's replied to me about what they want. TIME TO GO SHAKE THEM DOWN.

I'm feeling the same with Christmas presents, trying to scour the interwebs for stuff family/friends/various and sundry others would be interested in.

I love D&D too, though atm my favorite rule is "ultimately what the DM says goes" ;) I assume you play 5e?
no subject
Yup, I play 5e! I'm interested in learning more about the older systems, but right now I'm still super excited about 5e so I'm sticking with that.
